Care Guidelines
Light: Prefers bright, indirect light (1,000–3,500 footcandles), similar to Cattleya orchids. Too much shade will significantly delay flowering.
Temperature: Thrives in intermediate to warm conditions. Daytime 20–29°C (68–84°F) and nighttime 15–18°C (59–64°F). Significant night drops are beneficial.
Watering: Keep fairly moist, especially during active growth in spring/summer. Do not let it dry out completely between waterings, as this causes dehydration. Water in the morning to prevent bacterial growth.
Humidity: 50%–70% relative humidity is ideal.
Media & Potting: Use a well-draining, open, and airy mix containing medium-grade fir bark, perlite, and sphagnum moss.
Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years, or when the mix begins to decompose. Since they are large plants that need substantial water, annual repotting is often beneficial to keep the substrate fresh.
Fertilizer: Use a balanced fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20) regularly, but at half strength, to support their large growth.
