Catasetum tenebrosum 1 Plant bloom size
Catasetum tenebrosum is a highly sought-after, miniature to small-sized orchid native to Peru and Ecuador It is famous for its striking, deeply fragrant flowers that feature glossy, chocolate-brown to near-black petals and a contrasting lime-green or yellow lip.
Like other Catasetum species, it requires a distinct, cyclical approach to care tied to its seasonal growth and rest periods:
Growth Season (Spring to Autumn): Water and fertilize abundantly when new growths appear and roots reach about 5 cm in length. This plant thrives in warm, humid conditions with bright, indirect light.
Dormancy (Winter): Once the pseudobulbs mature and leaves begin to yellow and drop, cease watering and fertilizing entirely. Withhold moisture during the leafless winter rest to prevent root rot, resuming only when new spring growth emerges.
